The baby hygiene products that you cannot miss in your bathroom
There are many hygiene products that we need for the daily care of our baby, note these essential!
Newborn hygiene is essential for many reasons. On the one hand, it keeps the baby cool, relaxed and protects his health. On the other hand, it is a perfect occasion to strengthen ties of intimacy between the parents and the newborn baby. The moment of hygiene is a time to meet, enjoy, discover and laugh together.
Before the arrival of the baby, future moms try to get hold of all those products, objects, clothes … that are essential for the first days of the baby’s life. However, it may be that being the first baby we do not have a clear idea of those hygiene products that are necessary for the bathroom, or that we are extremely forgetful people or, because we have been busy in other matters, which leads to Let’s forget about some basic products.
To alleviate these oversights, we offer a small list of all those hygiene things that we believe cannot be missing. From PregDream we invite you to create your own list, supporting yourself with the following suggestions:

FOR THE BATHROOM
For the bathroom we will need:
– 100% natural sponge : there are several types and brands on the market, of all prices. It is important that it be an extra soft sponge, since the baby’s skin is very delicate and irritated very easily. As a novelty, in some stores we can find sponges-mitten at low prices that facilitate the work of holding the baby during the bath.
– Gel with neutral pH : it is very important to buy a gel with neutral pH for the child’s bath, due to the sensitivity of the baby’s skin. This will avoid irritation of the eyes, the appearance of redness, peeling skin … We can use it interchangeably on the head and body.
AFTER BATH
After the bath we still need some products, such as the following:
– Moisturizing cream : after the bath, once we have dried the baby very well (a good drying is essential, since the humidity causes irritation and fungi) we can apply oils or moisturizing creams, applying it with a small massage. The massage relaxes the baby (very useful before going to sleep) and reassures him if the moment of the bath has not been entirely pleasant for the child. If the baby has dermatitis or atopic skin, do not apply any product at random, it is possible that we will worsen his condition. It is better to consult with your pediatrician, since there are special creams on the market for these cases. In the event that the baby has cradle cap (small fatty flakes on the scalp), almond oil may favor its treatment.
– Baby cologne : baby colognes are very pleasant and useful at specific times. However, due to its high content of alcohol and other chemical products, we advise its use as little as possible.
FOR DIAPER CHANGES
The diaper change is important, to avoid irritation:
– Natural sponge, warm water and 100% natural glycerin soap : as a substitute for wet wipes, we bet on this formula to clean the baby’s bottom. It does not contain chemicals and the child’s skin appreciates it in the short, medium and long term. It avoids many irritations and avoids the possible risks that the chemical compounds of the wet wipes may have for the health of the little one. In addition, it is a much cheaper resource.
– Homemade wipes or wet wipes: although we do not bet on chemicals, we recognize that it is very useful to have a package of baby wipes always in your bag. It is a practical resource when we go with the baby to places where applying the previous formula is very complicated. Another alternative is that we make the wipes at home . In this way it does not contain chemicals and on the internet we can find simple methods for its preparation. It is an easy and inexpensive resource that only requires skill and time.
– Balsamic cream : once we have dried the area well, you can use this type of cream in a small amount and as long as the skin is very sensitive to the touch of the diaper or the area is very red. It is important not to abuse.
OTHER DAILY USE PRODUCTS
We will not need these products every day, but we always have to have them on hand in case they are missing:
– Physiological serum : it is very useful to extract mucus from the newborn, to clean the eyes of legañas or conjunctivitis, or even to clean any wound. It can be bought in tiny ampoules, which makes it more comfortable and hygienic, in large bottles (100 ml, 500 ml, 1000 ml …) and even in aerosol, which apparently dissolves mucus better.
To remove the snot from the baby, lay the child on his back and turn his head to the side . Apply the serum in the upper nostril and repeat the operation in the other nostril, turning the head to the other side. Incorporate the child to finish expelling the mucus. Never use cotton buds to clean your nose. When the baby grows and still does not know how to “blow the snot”, this same application can be carried out in a sitting position.
– Sterile gauze : available in pharmacies and supermarkets and helps to clean the baby.
– For the navel : Chlorhydrin and umbilical bands (if necessary at certain times, since whenever possible it is better to leave the area outdoors to avoid creating humidity).
– High factor sun cream: especially in spring and summer. We recommend that you consult with your pediatrician if you need any specifications. Remember that, as we talked before, baby’s skin is very sensitive and not everyone responds the same to all products.
– 70º alcohol: ethyl alcohol from 70 degrees is already an excellent antiseptic. To achieve a good disinfectant action we have to let it act for 2 minutes. Its bactericidal power is very high, eliminating 90% of bacteria and it is not as aggressive as 96º alcohol, commonly used in homes.
– Special rounded tip scissors : to cut the baby’s nails.
– Cloth gauze : these are fine cloth handkerchiefs that are highly absorbent. They are very useful to protect the newborn from the sun and above all, to clean all kinds of fluids (food, drool, regurgitation, mucus, etc.)
– Disposable syringes : to apply physiological serum, provide medicine or milk.
– Safety ear buds .
– Soft brush for hair .
