11 precautions we must take in summer with children
For all of us to have a pleasant summer season, we must prevent scares or illnesses in children.
Although it may sound alarmist, summer is full of situations that can pose a danger to our children. They spend more time away from home, we have to be aware of them 24 hours a day because they do not go to class and then there is the heat wave that can appear at any moment. We must be cautious and be prepared for any extra care we have to give them.
As there are many, and different, situations in which we have to be careful in summer at PregDream we have prepared a list with the ten most important, or at least the most frequent this season . We hope that it will serve as a guide for you.

1. HEAT WAVE
It is the most feared because it especially affects children and the elderly. When a heat wave approaches, the media reports massively, so it is almost impossible not to find out. The best way to cope is to keep the little ones (and ourselves) well hydrated . Always carry a bottle of water in your bag and backpack and drink every 20 or 30 minutes. The ideal is to consume two liters of water a day (does not include soft drinks).
2. HIGH TEMPERATURES
Whether due to a heat wave or because there are high temperatures, avoid going outside when the temperature is higher, which usually coincides with nap time, which on the other hand gives us the perfect excuse to comply with tradition Spanish. In the hottest areas of the country, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. it is best to stay somewhere cool or at least be careful to stay in the shade at the pool or on the beach.
3. ABUSE OF AIR CONDITIONING
It is also not good to abuse the air conditioning , even if it is hot. Sudden changes in temperature are not recommended because they can lead to colds, even more severe ailments .
4. BEWARE OF SUN EXPOSURE
It is essential to protect children from the sun properly. Their skin is more delicate than that of adults, making it more fragile when it comes to receiving burns. Do not forget sunscreen , with high protection (no less than 30FPS), especially in the first days, or hats or caps that prevent the sun from falling directly on their heads. For children things like this do not seem important, rather a nuisance , so it is the parents’ job to be aware in summer to make sure that they have a covered head and put cream on them again every two hours.
5. CHANGES IN DIET
In summer we tend to eat fresher and sometimes more caloric foods, such as soft drinks or ice cream. We spend more time away from home, we allow ourselves more excesses – to them and to ourselves – and it is easy to get used to what we like. You have to be vigilant to prevent children from picking up bad eating habits in summer . However, you can take advantage of the summer season to familiarize them with seasonal fruit or vegetables. Summer is a great time to instill good eating habits before they go back to school.
6. DIGESTION CUTS
There is no fixed time for meals, children want to take a bath or eat ice cream to cool off, and the danger of digestion cuts is present. You have to be vigilant and do not allow them to bathe or eat again before digestion, a process that takes about two hours on average.
7. STINGS AND ALLERGIES
If we are outdoors, it is quite likely that children are exposed to mosquito bites and allergies to certain products. It is important to have medications that relieve stings and your medication for allergies on hand. It does not hurt to go to the doctor as a precaution.
8. CARE IN THE BATHROOMS
At the pool and on the beach there is lifeguard service, but it is important to act as watchmen ourselves. Not only to assist them in the event of a possible drowning, but also so that they know where we are and do not get lost , something common among children on large beaches. Until they learn to swim and function on their own, they must always go to the water with a float or cuffs and under the supervision of an adult.
9. PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES
For reasons of conciliation or for children to be with others of the same age it is usual that in summer we take the opportunity to sign them up for a workshop. It’s a way for them to stay connected with their friends and even discover new ones . It is the way in which they do not get to feel lonely, even neglected if the parents work during the summer season. The ideal is to enroll them in activities that help them socialize and do not involve risks, such as sports campuses or educational and recreational workshops.
10. THE CROWDS OF PEOPLE
If in summer we go to parties or visit tourist areas where there are many people, we must always keep an eye on the children so that they do not get lost . Also, if they see that they are at a time when they do not see their parents, they can be scared.
11. BACK TO SCHOOL
It is worth that summer is to enjoy the holidays, but if our children are three months without picking up a book when in September they have to go back to class it will cost them much more . Get them interested in reading, even lend yourself to help them review with them what they learned during the previous course. If they see that you turn to them, they will be more receptive to picking up the books again.
