WHY TELL A STORY ON HALLOWEEN?
At night, parents usually put a scary movie on their children , make popcorn and forget about it. They come with them the movie or they leave them to their air if there are several. It is a quiet plan in which parents can enjoy a few moments of peace while their children are entertained. However, if you want to have a good time with them and become more involved, a story is better.
– Through a story we are stimulating the children’s imagination. We are giving orders to their brain to imagine what we are telling and we are not giving them the story on a platter so that they only have to slap their butt in front of the screen. In addition, our imagination can scare more than the images.
– Therein lies the real magic of Halloween . Formerly on Halloween, children (and not so children) gathered around the fireplace to tell scary stories. It was also a family moment, a moment that you can now use to strengthen family ties.
– Your children will remember it fondly. Surely your children will have a better memory of these dates if you are the one who shares that moment with them than if you simply put a movie on them. In addition, the little one can also participate in the story , you can ask him to change the end of the story or you can even interpret it with dolls (the stories having fewer characters are easier to interpret).
STORIES TO TELL YOUR CHILDREN ON HALLOWEEN
Then we leave you with some computer stories by level of fear, from less to more, so you can choose the most appropriate according to their ages.
1. Juan without fear
The story of “John Without Fear” is a horror tale by the Brothers Grimm. It is a story suitable for the smallest of the house because it is not scary and has a happy ending. This story also has a moral: all of us are afraid of something and we should not be afraid to accept it because it is part of us, even the bravest are afraid of something. However, the difference between a coward and a brave man is that the brave man comes to terms with his fears and confronts them. This famous tale is very easy to find on the Internet and as it has a variety of characters it is especially suitable so that you can even interpret it with puppets.
2. Jack O ‘Lantern
This horror tale is very famous and you can easily find it on the internet. It also has a final moral that you can take advantage of to teach children something new: “whoever plays with fire is burned” or “whoever plays with danger falls into it” . It also explains the origin of pumpkins as lanterns on the night of the dead. It is about a rogue and con man who meets the devil in a tavern. The demon comes to take his soul but Jack makes a deal with him that is cheating. After deceiving him several times, he finally makes the devil swear that he will not take his soul and thus manages to avoid death for a few more years. When he finally dies he is not admitted to heaven because he had a corrupt and miserable life, but in hell they do not want him either because the devil swore not to take his soul, so the devil tells him to go where he came from and gives him a lump of coal from hell to light the way back and which Jack stuffs into an empty pumpkin. Thus, Jack has no choice but to wander forever , with a pumpkin as a lantern.
3. The boy from the cemetery
A few years ago a boy named Álvaro (put whatever name you want) accompanied his mother to the cemetery to visit the grave of a friend who was very dear to the family. As his parents paid their respects to their friend’s grave, Álvaro was sitting on a bench a few feet from them. In a little while a boy his own age and dressed in cloth shorts touched his shoulder from behind:
– Hello, my name is Juan. Do you play ball with me?
Álvaro nodded happily, he finally had a friend to play with! Together they were playing ball until a kick that the boy gave him fell into the lake that was surrounding the cemetery, the boy asked Álvaro if he could go catch it, since he was smaller and would surely swim worse. Álvaro neither short nor lazy entered the lake and when he finally caught the ball an icy hand pulled his shirt down. His parents saw him from afar making efforts not to drown and took him out of there. As soon as Álvaro recovered his senses, he asked:
– Did you give Juan the ball back?
– Juan? Who is Juan? – They asked surprised.
Days later, searching the internet when his parents slept, he learned that a boy had drowned in that same lake 10 years ago trying to retrieve his ball.
4. Pinocchio
The last position is for this story. Surely you remember the beautiful story of Pinocchio that Disney turned into a movie, funny, childish and with a moral. However, Collodi’s original story in 1882 did not have the happy ending of the whale . In the original, Pinocchio receives harsh punishments for all the mischief he does, he behaves cruelly (he even kills Jiminy Cricket with a hammer blow) and he is always misbehaving. There is also a part where the faceless Blue Fairy appears blaming Pinocchio for all his faults. Finally, Pinocchio is hanged for all the sins he committed. Given the success that the story was having at the end, the last chapters were modified to give it a childish touch. However, if you really want to scare your kidsAnd while they learn a moral, read the original story to them, it is more traumatizing and disturbing than many of the horror stories out there today.
